Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing a fun behind the scenes look at the people that make up Urban Sky Developments! From the founder, business partner, legal, admin, design and marketing; it’s a great opportunity to get to know our amazing team.
This week we had the opportunity to sit down with Tom Keogh; head of project management and founder of Urban Sky Developments. Here’s what he had to say:
Q: Tell the readers a bit about yourself.
A: I originated in Toronto Ontario spent elementary school there and then the family moved to London Ontario for my high school. We have a large family (including parents there was 9 of us). We lived in both the urban and suburban areas. I’ve always been sports-minded. I was involved in lots of sports as a kid and played at a high level of hockey and football back then.
After high school, I applied to and was accepted into Royal Military College (RMC) where I completed an engineering degree. Upon graduating I was an officer in the combat engineers, and I spent a total of 15 years in the military. During that time I moved to the Special Forces and had international postings with other Special Forces.
After I left the military in about 1990, I set up an engineering and project management business in Edmonton.
Q: Describe how you first got into construction.
A: It was the army engineers, with heavy construction. I.e.) roads, infrastructure. There was one occasion where the Canadian army was reopening a previously shut down base in Ontario that had been used for tanks and artillery. We spend a full year putting new roads, and infrastructure services. What was different and challenging were the many unexploded artillery and ammunition rounds were present and we spent quite some time clearing all the unexploded ammunition during that construction period.
Q: What is your greatest achievement outside of construction?
A: It’s hard to pick just one. Both my sibling family and immediate family have a unique blend of being very capable and independent, but always go out of their way to stay connected with each other. The 25 years of successfully operating my own business, and my military service are also significant achievements.
To be continued…
